“The two companies will also discuss the development of an efficient production system to ensure a stable amount of batteries developed in common,” according to the press release from Nissan. Nissan and Sunwoda hope to reach a final agreement by the end of the year, is it still specified.
Sunwoda is a group chinese manufacturer of lithium-ion batteries for the automotive as well as consumer electronic products (smartphones, laptops, etc).
Synergy, or go it alone ?
unlike the major automotive groups integrated, the alliance Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Motors is a team of unique independent businesses, which, therefore, can develop separately from third-party partnerships.
But the new strategy of the alliance, unveiled at the end of may, however, aims to tighten the links of three of its members, both on the research and development on the production, in order to generate more synergies, in particular around the Airbus of batteries that the government has virtually imposed on Renault.

in terms of technology, Nissan will be the leader of the alliance on the autonomous control and the drives of future electric models developed on purpose-built platforms.
Strongly affected by the crisis of the coronavirus, which has further increased its existing difficulties, Nissan has accused a net loss of 5.7 billion euros in its fiscal year 2019-2020 for the year ended 31 march, a first since 2009. The group has also strengthened its restructuring plan, deciding in particular to close the site of Barcelona in Spain.
