According to Claudio de Sanctis, Deutsche Bank’s private customer executive, the cuts in the Postbank branch network will lead to job cuts. How many jobs will be affected by the reduction of the current 550 Postbank branches to around 300 by mid-2026 is the subject of discussions with employee representatives.

“But the fact is: there is no way around it, even if our goal is to use employees in other functions if possible,” said de Sanctis, who is also responsible for Postbank, to the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung (F.A.S.)”.

He also wants to lay the foundation for a growth and success story for the employees today – for the Deutsche Bank brand as well as for Postbank. “I have to act now,” said the private customer executive, who has been in office since July. “It would be much worse if we did nothing and in the end even more jobs were lost. The employee representatives can’t want that either.” De Sanctis referred to in-house evaluations, according to which three quarters of Postbank customers hardly ever visit a branch.

From the point of view of the private customer board, Deutsche Bank’s network, which currently has 400 branches, is fundamentally set up correctly today, “even if I don’t want to rule out adjustments.”
