For a long time they were the most famous banking family in the financial industry: the Rothschilds. The history of the dynasty is a saga of rise, power and influence. Now one of its members, Jacob Rothschild, has died.

The origins of the Rothschilds go back to Mayer Amschel Rothschild, who lived in Frankfurt am Main in the late 18th century.
