One day before Christmas Eve, the pilots’ union Verband Cockpit went on strike at the Lufthansa subsidiary Discover Airlines. The five-hour warning strike began on Saturday morning and was expected to last until 1 p.m., a union spokesman confirmed. The industrial dispute is about the first collective agreement for pilots of the airline, which was founded a good two years ago. The VC had previously complained about the employer’s stalling tactics.
After the strike announcement, the Lufthansa subsidiary created an alternative flight plan that was intended to minimize the consequences for passengers. Passengers would be informed individually. “Our priority is to offer all of our guests a travel option,” said a company spokeswoman.
In Frankfurt, some short and medium-haul flights were rescheduled before the strike period, which also led to earlier return flights from holiday destinations. The flights in Munich were to be handled by the parent company Lufthansa.
