The recovery in air traffic from the pandemic is bringing aircraft manufacturers more orders, including for large long-haul jets. At the start of the air show in Dubai, the Arab airline Emirates awarded the US aircraft manufacturer Boeing a major order for 95 wide-body jets.
In total, Boeing received orders for 176 passenger aircraft. The world’s largest manufacturer, Airbus, only received an order for 30 aircraft. But the DAX group is working on a large order of at least 240 aircraft with Turkish Airlines.

Boeing shares rose by more than four percent shortly after the start of trading in the USA, especially since an upcoming meeting between US President Joe Biden and China’s head of state Xi Jinping will give the US company a long-awaited breakthrough in the export of its 737 Max medium-haul jet could. Airbus shares temporarily rose by almost two percent in Frankfurt and were recently up almost one percent.
Emirates ordered 90 Boeing wide-body jets in the modernized new edition 777X as well as five examples of the 787 “Dreamliner” type in Dubai. The boost for the 777X is a ray of hope for the US company. Emirates has now ordered a total of 205 machines from the series.
The company already operates more aircraft of the previous 777 model than any other airline in the world. However, like all other interested parties, she has not yet received a single copy of the new edition. Because of delays in development and approval as well as difficulties with other aircraft types, Boeing has postponed delivery of the first example by several years to 2025.
According to Boeing airline chief Stan Deal, this schedule is “achievable.” Lufthansa has also been waiting for its first copy for a long time. The delay has already cost the manufacturer billions.
Boeing also scored points with Flydubai with its “Dreamliner” jets. The Arab low-cost airline ordered wide-body jets for the first time at the trade fair and chose 30 787-9 “Dreamliner” machines.
Turkish-Airlines will Airbus-Jets
However, a major order from the Turkish state airline for Airbus has not yet been finalized. According to Airbus, both sides have agreed in principle on a “significant aircraft order” and plan to announce it in the next few days. According to Turkish Airlines, it is about the purchase of 355 Airbus aircraft, of which 240 are firm orders and 115 are options.
On Monday, Airbus was only able to announce an order from the Latvian airline Air Baltic. The company ordered a further 30 jets of the smallest Airbus model, the A220. According to its own information, Air Baltic has also secured purchase rights for a further 20 aircraft.
