The Green Week agricultural trade fair in Berlin missed its target of well over 300,000 visitors this year. The reason given by the trade fair on Sunday was the strike by the train drivers’ union GDL at the railway, which significantly affected traffic on five of the ten days of the trade fair. “A total of around 275,000 trade fair guests came to the Green Week in Berlin,” said the trade fair. This represents a small decrease compared to the previous year – around 300,000 guests were counted back then.
According to the trade fair, guests showed increased interest in purchasing. “They spent over 150 euros per capita at the Green Week. This means an increase compared to the last event in 2023,” it said. In addition to Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), the visitors to the trade fair also included eight federal ministers.
Around 1,400 exhibitors from 60 countries presented themselves at the 88th edition of the Green Week from January 19th to Sunday. The trade fair was dominated, especially at the beginning, by the debate about subsidy cuts in agriculture and nationwide protests by farmers.
