During the containment, it has become the essential tool to communicate with the outside world and continue to work in good conditions. Yet, 2020 is shaping up as a year to the chaotic market of the phone. Sales are expected to fall by 11.9 %, according to research firm IDC, followed by The Echos. In France, the decrease would be approximately 13 %.

Of amazing numbers, so that everywhere in Europe, the use of the smartphone has jumped between march and April. According to a study by the american firm AppAnnie, the French have spent 25 % more time on their phone. In Italy as in Spain, the use of the smartphone has also exploded. In Asia, China leads the ranking with a leap of 30 %.
A historical decline
The decline in the number of sales in 2020 is therefore a surprise and a first size-warning for telecoms giants. More than 1.3 billion devices, however, must elapse. But the market is on alert. This fall is a first, while for several years the growth was the master-word. In 2019, a small decrease of 1.9 % had been registered without the worry forecasters. The output of the containment in several european countries left yet to portend a resumption of purchases.

On the first six months of the year, the fall in the number of sales is around 20 %. For the time being, the companies expect a return to the normal to the horizon 2021, and hope that the 5G will serve as the catalyst. Smartphones using this new technology are already available, but the deployment of 5G in Europe has been largely delayed by the sars coronavirus. Like cell phones, computers and tablets are also affected by the crisis. The decline is less, but is, however, around 9 %. China, the first country hit by the epidemic will not be as much affected as Europe, according to the calculations of the firm IDC.
