“Increasing numbers of refugees are being registered in Germany every week and both the federal states and the municipalities are reaching their limits,” said Wüst. “We have to be able to do justice to the people who are fleeing to us because of the war.” Instead of providing financial support to the states, “the federal government seems to believe that the problem can simply be sat out,” criticized the North Rhine-Westphalian head of government, who is currently one of the chairmen of the Prime Ministers’ Conference.
The conference of the prime ministers of the federal states on Thursday should also deal with the increasing number of refugees and the financing of the resulting costs. Among other things, the states want to coordinate their demands on the federal government.
