The footballers of VfL Wolfsburg have taken a big step towards the quarter-finals of the Champions League. In the duel between the top teams in Group B with the same number of points, the Lower Saxony team beat AS Roma 4-2 (2-1) on Thursday evening and gained a three-point lead with two games left in the preliminary round. The Wolves lead the group with ten points.

Ewa Pajor (24th minute/53rd), Sveindis Jonsdottir (40th) and Lena Lattwein (52nd) ensured the Wolves’ deserved victory. Rome’s Andressa Alves (42nd) and Sophie Haug (76th) had brought back some tension in between.

In the other game of the group, third-placed SKN St. Pölten took on the previously pointless players from Slavia Prague (9 p.m.). If the Austrians lose, the Wolfsburg women could complete the knockout round before the last two games.
