For the past eight days, the forester Vangelis has been driving his green Nissan Navara at walking speed through the forests of Rhodes, scanning the landscape with tired eyes. The forest fires in the southwest of the island devastated large parts of the main settlement area of the approximately 5000 existing Dama Dama deer.
