So, like, the White House, you know, totally went off on Amazon for supposedly thinking about showing off how much President Donald Trump’s tariffs would add to the prices of stuff on their website.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt was all like, “This is, like, a super unfriendly and political move by Amazon.” She said this at a press briefing with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
But then, Amazon was all, “Wait, what? We never actually said we were gonna do that.” They cleared things up real quick and said it’s not gonna happen.
Did you know that like 70% of the stuff Amazon sells is made in China? And Trump, being Trump, slapped some crazy high tariffs on imports from there, like up to 145%. Ouch.
So, like, on Tuesday, the White House was all mad at Amazon for, you know, thinking about showing these tariff costs. They were all like, “This is not cool, Amazon.”
And then, this Amazon spokesperson was like, “Actually, we were only thinking about doing that for our Amazon Haul section, not the main site.” They were like, “Chill, it’s not happening.”
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick was like, “Good move, Amazon.”
The White House was all triggered by this report from Punchbowl News saying Amazon was gonna show how much tariffs added to prices. They were not having it.
At the press briefing, someone asked if Amazon showing these costs means, like, regular people have to pay for Trump’s policies. Leavitt was like, “I just talked to the president about this.” She also brought up this thing about Amazon partnering with a Chinese propaganda arm. Drama!
Other companies, like Shein and Temu, have been adding crazy tariffs too. Temu even shows this import charge that adds a whopping 145% to each item. Yikes.
Seems like Trump and Bezos might be on the outs now. Bezos was all buddy-buddy with Trump before, but now things seem tense.
Amazon’s in a tough spot with all these tariffs. They’re emailing sellers to see how they’re handling the situation. It’s a mess.
Leavitt was asked if Bezos still supports Trump. She dodged the question and just said Amazon’s move was political.
So, yeah, things are heating up between Amazon and the White House. Let’s see how this all plays out.
