2017 – The UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague sentences the Bosnian Serb ex-General Ratko Mladic to life imprisonment. The judges hold him responsible in particular for the 1995 massacre of Bosnian Muslims in Srebrenica.
1977 – The supersonic Concorde takes off on its first flight from Paris to New York.
1975 – Two days after the death of the dictator Francisco Franco, the monarchy is restored in Spain with the proclamation of Juan Carlos as king.
1959 – The German TV station in the GDR broadcasts a bedtime film with the sandman for the first time. From 1991 the East Sandman is broadcast nationwide.
