Two and a half months after an attack on a senior citizen in her apartment in Stralsund, the investigation is complete. Charges of rape, robbery and coercion have now been brought against a 36-year-old suspect, a spokesman for the prosecutor said on Wednesday. The man from the Rostock district is said to have committed the crimes in early October in an apartment building in the Knieper West district while he was visiting an acquaintance in the apartment building. The trial is scheduled to take place in early 2023 at the Stralsund Regional Court.

According to the public prosecutor’s office, the man rang the 87-year-old woman’s bell on October 2nd – a Sunday -, pushed her into the apartment and sexually abused her. Then he stole the wallet with more than 1000 euros in cash and a cell phone and fled. The injured victim told a neighbor who got help.

During witness interrogations, it emerged that on October 1, a man had rung the bell of a 78-year-old girl in the house and tried to get into the apartment. However, this woman had prevented the man from using her toilet, blocked his way and threatened to call the police. The man disappeared. Information provided by the 78-year-old and tips from local residents led investigators to track down the relevant criminal suspect, who was later caught in the Güstrow region and taken into custody.
