Beer can not only quench thirst, but also fire: On Autobahn 19 in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, a family man quickly fought the flames of his car that had caught fire with the beer.

He needed eight bottles before the fire was extinguished, according to the Linstow branch of the Autobahn and traffic police. The fire brigade then only had to disconnect the battery and prevent the leakage of environmentally harmful liquids.

The 36-year-old driver was on his way to Berlin with his family of four at noon. The car caught fire due to a technical defect in the engine area, the police said. The father of the family immediately drove onto the hard shoulder. “The family immediately left the heavily smoking car and got out of danger.” In addition to the luggage, the father then also took a crate of beer out of the trunk – and began the unusual firefighting operation.

He could no longer save the car: it was a total economic loss, it said. However, the timely deletion prevented damage to the road surface of the motorway.
