In his 25-minute speech, Trump described Manhattan’s chief attorney general, Alvin Bragg, as a “criminal”. The responsible New York judge Juan Merchan would “hate him,” said the 76-year-old Republican, who wants to run again in the 2024 presidential election.

Hours earlier in New York, the charges against Trump for making a $130,000 hush money payment to porn actress Stormy Daniels before the 2016 presidential election were published. Trump has been charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records. The ex-president pleaded not guilty to all counts in court.

Trump is the first ex-president in US history to face criminal prosecution. The right-wing populist has denied all allegations and describes himself as a victim of a politically motivated “witch hunt”.
