Deutsche Bahn wants to invest more than 100 million euros in new parking facilities in Hamburg-Eidelstedt and Hamburg-Langenfelde. In Eidelstedt, a new signal box and two systems with twelve 400-meter-long tracks for the ICE pit stop and the mobile check outside the factory building are to be built, as the railway announced on Monday. In Langenfelde, on the other hand, the existing system will be expanded by seven tracks, each also 400 meters long. Planned start of construction is 2025.
According to its own information, the railway wants to take account of the increasing number of passengers and the need for more climate-friendly traffic on the rails. The trains of the growing long-distance fleet at the Hamburg hub should be able to be cleaned and checked in a short time using the new systems. Deutsche Bahn’s ICE fleet is expected to grow to around 450 trains by the end of the decade.
