In the first six months of the year, almost twice as many motorcyclists died on the roads of Baden-Württemberg as in the first half of last year. This emerges from the traffic accident statistics that the Ministry of the Interior intends to publish in Stuttgart on Wednesday (9 August). According to this, 40 people were killed in accidents involving their motorcycles by the end of June, 17 more than in the same period in 2022. While the number of people seriously injured in accidents involving motorcycles fell from 545 to 431, 1157 others were slightly injured. That is slightly more than in the first half of 2022.
On the other hand, the number of fatal bicycle and electric bicycle users has fallen significantly. According to the ministry, 21 cyclists were killed (same period last year: 31), including 10 people with electric bicycles. The number of seriously injured cyclists also fell to 804 (961). Of these, 324 people suffered serious injuries while riding an electric bike (370).
Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU) was pleased with the decline and emphasized that cyclists and motorcyclists are “clearly still the focus of police work to improve road safety”.
