The specialist committees of the Bundestag are to give the green light for extensive armament projects of the Bundeswehr on Wednesday. Overall, the value of the procurement proposals adds up to 15 billion euros, as previously announced by parliamentary circles. Most of this is to be used for the first tranche of the planned acquisition of the US F-35 fighter jet.
After the first procurement decisions, others must follow quickly, Dürr demanded. “I expect the Federal Minister of Defense to declare the modernization of the Bundeswehr an absolute priority.” For a turning point in the Bundeswehr, a change in procurement policy is also necessary.
Greens leader Omid Nouripour called it “elementary” to set up the Bundeswehr in such a way that the defense of the alliance and the country is guaranteed. “It is therefore good that the budget committee can now decide on the first projects from the special fund,” he told the Funke newspapers. At the same time he attacked the previous government. “There is still a lot to be done to repair the numerous ruins left behind by the Union defense ministers”.
