A traffic accident involving six vehicles led to a full closure on Autobahn 3 on Wednesday. “At the scene of the accident, there was a massive field of debris more than 200 meters across all three lanes,” the highway police reported. In addition to a lot of body damage, there was only one minor injury.
The accident happened in the afternoon in the direction of Cologne between the Diez exit and the Nentershausen car park. The driver of a small truck with a body had overlooked the end of a traffic jam on the right lane. “At the last moment he tried to swerve to the left, but touched the left side of a semi-trailer with the right front of the vehicle,” the police reported. “As a result of the collision, the entire box body of the small truck was torn off and ended up in the middle lane.”
The vehicle skidded and struck the rear of another vehicle in the right lane. “This was pushed forward as a result, causing three other cars to be pushed on top of each other,” the police reported. The driver of the small truck was slightly injured, the other vehicles only suffered property damage. Another car drove over debris, which also damaged his car.
The section of track had to be completely closed after the accident at 2.40 p.m. and could only be reopened in sections.
