There were a few icy accidents on Bavarian roads on Tuesday night. However, the situation remained comparatively calm, the police headquarters in the Free State announced in the morning. Due to freezing rain, the German Weather Service warned of black ice for Wednesday morning.

A young couple in Siegsdorf (Traunstein district) collided their car with several trees and were slightly injured. The 22-year-old driver lost control of the car in a curve on a snow-covered road that evening and drove off the road, the police said. There was damage of around 15,000 euros.

Also in the Traunstein district, a 19-year-old came off the icy road and crashed head-on into the wall of a garage. The man was slightly injured in the accident in Inzell on Monday evening, the police said. The damage was estimated at around 6,000 euros.

There were several accidents in the Main-Spessart district due to the snowfall. In most cases, the roads were so slippery that vehicles sometimes slipped into ditches, guardrails or power boxes despite driving at low speeds, the police said. The damage caused therefore remained minimal. In one case, according to police, a person was taken to a clinic with minor injuries.

In Riedering, Upper Bavaria (Rosenheim district), a 25-year-old came off the road in the early hours of the morning due to slippery conditions and drove into a road sign and a guide post. The police said there was damage of around 5,000 euros.

The German Weather Service continues to warn of slippery conditions in the coming days. On Wednesday there will be one to three centimeters of fresh snow in parts of Swabia, Middle Franconia and Upper Bavaria. According to the DWD, larger amounts of fresh snow of 10 to 20 centimeters cannot be ruled out in northern Franconia until Thursday. On Wednesday night, the weather service expects freezing rain from the southwest to initially affect parts of Swabia, Middle Franconia and Upper Bavaria, which is expected to spread to the northern and eastern low mountain ranges over the course of the day. The result is black ice in some areas.
