According to the ADAC, if you are driving at the turn of the year, you have to expect traffic jams on German autobahns, especially on New Year’s Day. The association announced on Tuesday that the reason was the end of the holidays in Berlin, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saxony and Thuringia. Traffic jams in Germany are therefore to be expected, especially in the afternoon.

On New Year’s Eve, on the other hand, no major delays are expected – apart from motorways and trunk roads in the direction of the Alps. The association advises that winter vacationers should plan more time on the streets there on December 31st. Traffic jams can occur on the Tauernautobahn and the Brenner route in Austria as well as on the Gotthard route in Switzerland. Border controls could require additional patience from drivers.
