Many are still looking for it, others already have it: a Christmas tree. Statisticians have now taken a closer look at the business with the tree and the associated decoration over the past year. According to this, a total of 17,601 trees were imported to Saxony-Anhalt from abroad in 2021. The fir, spruce and pine trees came mainly from Poland (52 percent) and Denmark (47 percent), as the State Statistical Office announced on Monday.

In Saxony-Anhalt itself, a total of 53 farms produced Christmas trees on an area of ​​124 hectares during the last agricultural census in 2020.

Christmas tree decorations and other Christmas items also came mainly from abroad last year. The almost 239 tons came mainly from the Netherlands and China. Almost all of the imported electric Christmas tree lighting came from there, at around 127 tons. A good 1,576 tons of candles, which were imported to Saxony-Anhalt last year, also provided atmospheric light – around 85 percent of which came from Poland.
