China accounts for 88 percent of the legetøjsmodeller, who for years has been stopped in the EU, with toxic content.
the Harmful chemicals in toys from China, in particular, flows continue to Europe, shows a statement from The European Environmental bureau (EEB).
This is despite an increased focus on the area where there is effective EUROPEAN legislation.
Among the most toxic products are dolls, slimdyr and doktorlegetøj.
Customs officials in EU member states alone in the year stopped 248 legetøjsmodeller. The actual number of toys to be assessed by the EEB to potentially be in the millions.
– These numbers are disheartening. It is a flood. When the authorities have the resources, do they do it well. But we are thinking about how much that escapes into Europe undetected, ” says Tatiana Santos, who has responsibility for the area in EEB.
Among the reasons for the rejection of the toys is a high content of phthalates, which are plasticizers in the plastiklegetøjet.
Phthalates can be harmful to the health of people.
A major study in over half of the EU member states shows that children in almost all the countries surveyed Tümbet had a harmful level of phthalates in the body.
in General, the children are more affected than their mothers. On average they have twice as high levels of harmful plasticizers in the body. In some cases many times higher.
Ftalaterne can lead to behavioural problems, delayed puberty and problems with fertility.
It is particularly toys from China, that pose a problem. 88 percent of the legetøjsmodeller, that were stopped at EU borders come from China.
The worst example, which is recorded in the year, was a halloweenmaske, which was found in Germany. 43 percent of its total weight of phthalates.
Some pieces of the toys are also sorted from the national authorities, if they can pose another risk. It can be a risk for choking.
A Polish study from 2018 with the data from Poland, Hungary, the Czech republic and Slovakia, shows that roughly one-third of all plastic toys – exactly 772.598 pieces – had been rejected.
92 percent of the products were stopped, the bar marked “CE”. It is used as a guarantee that the product meets EU safety requirements. Since this was not the case, these products reported.
