Suddenly palm trees sprout on the Baltic Sea beaches. More and more beach chair rentals on the Bay of Lübeck are giving themselves a tropical touch. Palm trees line the way to the wicker beach chairs, and on some beaches thatched parasols and loungers are reminiscent of southern regions. “We love palm trees and we would like to give people a little more holiday feeling,” says Natascha Diestel-Babakerd from “Strand 36” in Timmendorfer Strand.
Since she recently planted the palm trees, tourists stopped and took photos, she says enthusiastically. After a day on the “palm beach”, a guest explained: “It’s like vacation here.” Above all in Haffkrug and Scharbeutz, where the younger audience is addressed, the palm trees are multiplying. Entire lounge areas under palm trees have also been created here on the beach.
The palm trees are well received on social media, as the Lübeck Bay Tourism Agency notes. The photos with the beach, palm trees and the Baltic Sea are often liked, said a spokeswoman. “When the weather is calm, the Baltic Sea has a turquoise color and in connection with the bright, fine sandy beaches and the palm trees, the viewer may get a little ‘South Sea feeling’,” says a spokeswoman and at the same time qualifies: “Admittedly with different air and water temperatures. “
