After the corona-related losses, Saxon youth hostels are on the rise again. With around 346,000 overnight stays, the pre-Corona level was almost reached last year, as the regional association of the German Youth Hostel Association announced upon request. This year they want to exceed the result with around 365,000 overnight stays. This Saturday the regional association will meet for a general meeting in the Schloss Colditz youth hostel.

“Youth hostels in Saxony are a place for lived hospitality. Tolerance, cosmopolitanism, sustainability and appreciation are part of our basic understanding,” emphasized the chairwoman of the Saxony regional association, Susan Graf.

Saxony’s youth hostels are of great importance in the range of tourist offerings, said Saxony’s Tourism Minister Barbara Klepsch. “You are in the middle of nature, in former castles or even in the national park,” emphasized the CDU politician. Guests of tomorrow would be thrilled here and would be important multipliers in building the image of the cultural travel destination among younger target groups.

The Saxony regional association has 77,000 members and, according to the ministry, operates 23 youth hostels in the Free State. Around 65 percent of the overnight guests are children and young people – school trips, training camps, rehearsal weeks, leisure activities and 21 percent are families.
