Webcam microphones, integrated microphones in laptops or headsets with a microphone – the range of microphones is diverse. All have advantages and disadvantages. Headsets with a microphone, for example, can become uncomfortable and the integrated microphones of notebooks do not always shine with great sound quality. Table microphones are therefore a practical alternative to the options mentioned. The advantage of the compact microphones is that you don’t have to speak directly into them, but can also place them some distance away without the sound quality suffering. Here you can find out what you should look out for when buying a table microphone, for example if you want to use it to create a podcast.

The listed advantages and disadvantages are also related to the quality of the table microphone.

There are now numerous technical products that use wireless technology – usually via Bluetooth. These include headphones, loudspeakers and table microphones. The clear advantage of wireless microphones is that you don’t have to accommodate any annoying cables. The microphones can be placed flexibly. On the other hand, the disadvantage can be that the connection between the microphone and receiver is interrupted or the battery fails. Wired microphones, on the other hand, are always ready to use and ensure a good connection. When buying, however, make sure that the cable length of the microphone is sufficient for your purposes.

You can choose between USB and jack plugs, which interface is suitable for you depends on the hardware used. Good microphones can also use so-called noise canceling to block out background noise such as hissing, loud breathing or pop noise. The lower the noise, the more natural the recordings are.

Mono table microphones record in one channel, while stereo table microphones use two channels. With mono table microphones, the recordings should sound calmer, while stereo microphones are useful if you would like to record the background noise as well. For example, if you want to create a podcast, a stereo desk microphone is a good idea.
