The Civil Guard of the Traffic Subsector of Alicante has investigated the driver of a car that almost tripled the speed allowed for a section of interurban road as it passed through the town of Hondón de las Nieves. Speeding limits drivers’ ability to react to an unforeseen event.
Around 8:30 a.m. on June 1, when the Civil Traffic Guard of the Alicante Subsector were carrying out their traffic surveillance work, by means of a speed control on the CV-845 interurban highway, at kilometer 1,600 as it passed through the town of Hondón de las Nieves, they captured a vehicle traveling at 169 kilometers per hour in an area limited to 60.
The road speed limit in that area is clearly specified on the traffic signs. The agents stopped the vehicle and once the driver was identified, they investigated him as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against road safety listed in article 379.1 of the Penal Code, having exceeded the permitted speed limit by more than 80 kilometers per hour. an intercity road.
The person responsible faces a sentence of three to six months in prison or a fine of six to twelve months or to carry out work for the benefit of the community from 31 to 90 days. In addition, the sentence is associated with the loss of the driver’s license from one to four years.
The Civil Guard recalls that compliance with speed limits, in addition to being an obligation, reduces the severity of possible injuries in the event of an accident and considerably increases reaction time, making it easier for drivers to make decisions in the event of an accident. unforeseen on the road, thus managing to avoid a greater number of these accidents.
