Agents of the Alicante National Police have arrested a twenty-four-year-old woman accused of mistreating her twenty-month-old daughter, who had been admitted on several occasions for seizures, as reported by the Headquarters in a statement.
Agents of Group II of the UFAM of the Provincial Judicial Police Brigade of Alicante received a mandate from an Investigating Court of Alicante to investigate facts that the Pediatrics service of a Hospital in Alicante had brought to the attention of the judicial authority.
An almost two-year-old baby had been admitted to the medical center for her study due to seizures, this not being the first time it had happened in her young age.
The first hypotheses pointed to a diagnosis of possible epileptic seizures. Although, after the negative tests, the professionals also suggested that the episodes were actually due to external causes.
The agents carried out the first investigative steps and collected the data related to the case, which indicated that the minor did not suffer from any illness and all her illness was allegedly caused by her mother.
The report offered by the hospital revealed that all the episodes occurred in the presence of the mother and only when she was with the child and no other adult was present.
When crises occurred, the mother required medical attention, but she was calm and calm, remitting the crises and the victim recovering after the arrival of health personnel.
In two of the episodes they were able to observe several marks or imprints of what could be sheets on the minor’s face, as if pressure had been placed against her mouth, which alerted the health personnel even more.
Once the suspicions began and control over the parent was greater, the crises disappeared. Finally, the agents arrested the mother of the minor, who was accused of a crime of ill-treatment, of what in the absence of a medical diagnosis could be a case of the so-called Münchhausen Syndrome by proxy.
The arrested woman, of Spanish nationality, was placed at the disposal of the Alicante Court of Instruction, which adopted as precautionary measures a prohibition of approach to the minor victim, being assigned the guard and custody to the father, establishing a visiting right of one hour , once a week, in a controlled and supervised meeting point.
