The Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Rural Development has created the Castilla-La Mancha Pastoral School, a specific training program understood as the set of actions aimed at training and learning, which will include, among others, matters of pasture management, zootechnical and animal health, as well as action measures in the matter that are respectful of the environment. This year it starts with a total of 12 face-to-face courses.

This is stated in the announcement of said ministry published this Monday in the Official Gazette of Castilla-La Mancha, in which it is explained that the courses are included within the actions of transfer of knowledge and information (Agrarian-Non-Agrarian Training) of the Measure 1 of the Rural Development Program 2014-2020 of the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Rural Development, which allows direct execution by the training services of the ministry or public body responsible for agriculture and rural development of the Community Board .

Regardless of the fact that it will be coordinated from the Las Pedroñeras (Cuenca) training center, the Castilla-La Mancha Shepherd School will also have an itinerant nature, so that each course can be held in a different location in the territory of Castilla-La Mancha. La Mancha, which has a livestock sector in which the figure of the shepherd has an important place in the management of extensive production systems.

The Ministry of Agriculture has also determined that collaboration agreements may be established with public or private entities that are interested in the development of actions in the field of training.

For this year, two activities have been scheduled in Albacete, face-to-face and 25 hours each, under the titles ‘Basic notions of production in sheep/goat farms (reproduction, milking, feeding)’ and ‘ Grazing and management of small ruminants’.

In the case of Ciudad Real, three will be held: ‘Theoretical-practical course on handling, feeding and milking small ruminants’, 30; ‘Basic notions of production in sheep/goat farms (reproduction, milking, feeding’, 25 hours; and ‘Grazing and handling of small ruminants’, another 25 hours.

In the case of the province of Cuenca and Guadalajara, they will host two courses per province, ‘Basic notions of production in sheep/goat farms (reproduction, milking, feeding’ and ‘Grazing and handling of small ruminants’, both of 25 hours.

The province of Toledo is the one that will host the most courses, up to a total of four. In addition to ‘Basic notions of production in sheep/goat farms’ and ‘Pastoralizing and handling of small ruminants’, it will also host the ‘Training course for the exploitation of goats of the Murcian Granada breed’ -20 hours of duration- and the ‘Training course for the exploitation of Manchega breed sheep’, of another 20 hours.
