The spokesman for agriculture of the Popular Group in the Valencian Parliament, Miguel Barrachina, has stated that “the time has come” for the Generalitat to demand that the Government of Pedro Sánchez “stop the water mistreatment to which it is subjecting the Valencian Community” .

Barrachina has assured that “it is essential that the Council of Ministers fully maintain the Tajo-Segura transfer, as it is essential for agriculture and the economy of the province of Alicante and other territories of our country, as stated in the ‘Memorandum’ signed on April 9, 2013 between the Government of the Nation and the five interested autonomies, including the Valencian Community.

«All the decisions that the Government of Sánchez is taking in water matters, with the more than complicit silence of Puig before his boss, is causing serious damage to the interests of agriculture in the Valencian Community.

These are decisions that are mortally wounding this sector from which thousands of families in the region live”, he stated.

In this sense, the deputy spokesman for the ‘popular’ has urged Sánchez so that the Júcar Hydrological Plan maintains the water that arrives from the Alarcón reservoir to the Valencian Community, by virtue of the agreement signed in 2001, «as it has been done to date, and that these contributions are not suppressed ».

Miguel Barrachina has defended that “instead of putting obstacles and always attacking the irrigators, Puig should grant the necessary subsidies to cover the part of the investment corresponding to the Acequia Real del Júcar in order to execute the works of the sectors pending carry out and start up the necessary investments to complete the irrigation modernization works of the Acequia Real del Júcar».

In addition, Barrachina has stated that “the Vinalopó aquifers cannot be closed or reduced in any way, which will generate irreparable consequences for the area’s irrigators. The Consell de Puig must carry out the necessary legal actions to prevent the closure of these aquifers.
