Despite having approved it in a hurry in an extraordinary council of ministers, the Government has not yet communicated to the European Commission the details of its plan to try to lower electricity prices by capping gas prices. The spokesmen for the community executive have insisted this morning that they have not received any official notification about this plan that the Government itself has foreseen that it cannot enter into force if it does not have the approval of the Brussels authorities.

The representatives of the Commission have recognized that to date they have not received anything. “We hope that Spain and Portugal formally notify us of the measures. For now we cannot make a decision on a measure that has not been notified to us »taking into account that there is a process that implies that Spain and Portugal send us an official request so that we can give a response» on the legality of this mechanism to limit the price of gas.

The Spanish Government has announced several times that it has reached a “political agreement” with the Commission, but from Brussels they had systematically demanded that it send the version finally approved and published in the BOE before talking about an analysis for its authorization. The Government, which insists that it wishes to apply the greatest speed in the processing of this plan, approved it on Friday in an extraordinary Council of Ministers, but has not yet sent it to Brussels.
