SPD selected Saturday in the last week a new leadership consisting of the duo of Norbert Walter-Borjans and Saskia Esken. They have been critical of the coalition with Merkel’s conservative party, the CDU.
By partikongressen in Berlin expected the SPD to vote on a number of requirements, which must be made to Merkel’s party.
It will include a major effort to protect the climate, a rise in the minimum wage and investments in infrastructure.
– I was, and I’m skeptical about the future of the coalition. But with these measures we are giving the coalition a realistic chance to continue – neither more nor less, says Saskia Esken.
The new SPD-duo is expected to be officially endorsed as the party’s leadership in the course of partikongressen in Berlin.
The two got entry via a victory over Germany’s current finance minister and vice-chancellor, Olaf Scholz, and his mate, græsrodspolitikeren Klara Geywitz.

Norbert Walter-Borjans, who is 67 years old, is the former minister of finance in the state of north Rhine-Westphalia. Here he is known as “the taxpayers ‘ Robin Hood’, because he swooped down on the skatteunddragere with bank accounts in Switzerland.
