The port of La Rápita (Tarragona) is the first in Spain to have a space for charging electric nautical boats. This facility, inaugurated this Thursday, is established in the port area of the town of Tarragona with the aim of promoting the decarbonisation of maritime activities and the conversion of this infrastructure into a ‘Greenport’, which favors the arrival of sustainable tourism that sails on boats electrical.

The cost of the electric charger is 40,000 euros and is financed by the British company Aqua SuperPower. It has a power of 75 kW and allows the simultaneous charging of two boats, which fill their batteries in approximately one hour. In addition, it works through an application that can be accessed from any mobile device.

The port of La Rápita, which is located in a fragile natural area such as the Ebro Delta, has the purpose of being an energy self-sufficient port. For this reason, it is committed to renewable energies and, already in 2017, three chargers for electric cars were installed in this infrastructure, which made it the first place in Spain with a Tesla brand electric vehicle charging point. In addition, it also has two fields of solar panels that reach a power of 141,400 Wp.
