Members of the Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group (GREIM) of the Civil Guard of Arenas De San Pedro rescued last Saturday the body of a man, a 76-year-old man from Madrid, who died in the Canal de la Aguja Negra in Los Galayos, belonging to the municipality of Guisando.
The complicated task of rescuing the body began at 11:55 a.m. on Saturday, when the Civil Guard’s Services Operations Center (COS) alerted mountain rescue specialists to go to the Black Aguja Canal. in Los Galayos, due to the possible discovery of the lifeless body of a hiker.
After analyzing the orography of the terrain, the Civil Guard Helicopter Unit based in Torrejón de Ardoz (Madrid) had to be activated to proceed with the rescue.
The mountain specialists were transferred to the place by helicopter, where the existence of the body was verified, which presented a series of serious injuries incompatible with life, possibly due to having fallen down the canal.
The rescue of the body was carried out between 2:50 p.m. and 5:40 p.m., after three hours of intense work given the difficulty of access to the area, both for medical services and for the Judicial Commission.
Finally, the Civil Guard helicopter was able to transfer both the mountain specialists and the body of the deceased to the Arenas de San Pedro Soccer Field. Once the body was removed, it was transferred to the Ávila Forensic Anatomical Institute for an autopsy.
