The consignment of 20 tons of pasteurized liquid egg from France of a Biscayan company that was immobilized on August 12 does not have fipronil, an insecticide commonly used to treat lice, mites or ticks and which is prohibited by the European Union. This has been stated by the Basque Government, which has released the batch after the analyzes carried out by the Directorate of Public Health and Addictions of the Department of Health.

The events took place on August 12, when the regional Executive immobilized a consignment of 20 tons of liquid egg allegedly contaminated by the insecticide fipronil. The contaminated product was detected before entering the food distribution chain, so there was no risk to public health at any time, the note adds.

However, the inspection services of the Directorate of Public Health and Addictions of the Department of Health have assured through a statement that they have managed to prevent the pasteurized liquid egg “from entering any process of manufacturing food products, eliminating any risk for public health”.

Likewise, the Department of Health has reported that it maintains “all control and surveillance systems” activated for the alert and has added that it will adopt all necessary measures to safeguard the health of all people residing in the Basque Country.
