The Senate classroom unanimously approved (218 yes) the bill Declaration of National Monument of the Teatro Regio di Parma. The provision is now being examined by the Chamber.

The bill consists of two articles: article 1, which recognizes the Teatro Regio di Parma as a national monument, and article 2, which contains the financial invariance clause introduced in order to implement the condition set, pursuant to Article 81 of the Constitution, by the Budget Commission in its opinion on the provision.

The proposal is the result of the parliamentary initiative of the Northern League senator of Parma Maria Gabriella Saponara.

“It is a great victory of the League for Parma, thanks to our senators, first of all Maria Gabriella Saponara who started the initiative and followed it with great determination until today’s unanimous vote of the Senate. Now the baton passes to the members of the Chamber and of the Deputies of the Lega Group who will not fail to put their maximum effort into completing the legislative process. a priority is to enhance it at national and international level. Just as it is absolutely necessary to defend it in all public institutions in the face of external interference that could severely penalize it. For many years we have listened to gossip from Pizzarotti and from the left. Today’s is a result that demonstrates once again that there are those who speak and there are those who do “: thus in a note the Lega di Parma.

The political party is bipartisan. The senator of the 5 Star Movement Michela Montevecchi considers the recognition “a due and precious act for one of the most prestigious cultural institutions in the world from which the history of melodrama has passed”. The Regio, she adds, “not only represents one of the main centers of the Italian opera tradition, but also preserves artistic and architectural treasures whose historical value is also the basis of this recognition”. The pentasellata then underlines how “culture is an instrument for building peace” and takes the opportunity to highlight the internal events of the theater, where the choir protested for the lack of involvement in the opening of this year’s opera season. “The hope is that with the new city administration by June we can reach a resolution of this affair”, says Montevecchi.

Even the group of the Democratic Party considers it “important to proceed with the approval of the law that allows the Teatro Regio di Parma to be considered a national monument” which is “a lively place in the city of Parma and the entire nation”. As Senator Stefano Collina points out, in fact, “many important events of Italian culture have passed through the theater, such as Verdi’s celebrations, but today it can represent an important place to promote the culture of peace and peaceful coexistence in communities”.
