According to a survey, half of Germans see the visit of King Charles III as a sign of Great Britain’s rapprochement with Germany after the Brexit alienation 37 percent “rather” and 13 percent “completely” agree. The visit to Germany is Charles’ first trip abroad as the new British king.

According to the survey, 27 percent do not believe that Charles’ visit means a rapprochement after Brexit (15 percent “tend to disagree”, 12 percent “strongly disagree”). 24 percent did not provide any information.

The king’s visit was “a great personal gesture and an important sign of Anglo-German relations,” said Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at a reception in Berlin on Wednesday.

At a state banquet in Bellevue Palace on Wednesday evening, King Charles said that relations between the two countries were also extremely important to him. “I am more convinced than ever of their enduring value to all of us,” Charles said in his after-dinner speech. “I can only assure you that I will do everything I can to further strengthen our relationship during my time as king.”

Even before their three-day visit to Germany, the British king and his wife Camilla wrote on Twitter that it was a great pleasure for them to be able to further deepen the long-standing friendship between the two nations.
