Farmers in Hamburg grew thousands of tons of vegetables and strawberries again last year. A total of around 9,600 tons of lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and other vegetables and 15 tons of strawberries grew in the Hanseatic city, as reported by the North Statistics Office on Monday. This roughly corresponds to the amount from the previous year. The majority of the vegetables are leafy and stalked vegetables, of which around 6100 tons were grown.

At 659 hectares, the area under cultivation remained the same as in 2021. However, the number of farms fell by three percent to 67. Six farms worked organically outdoors. They farmed about three percent of the cultivated area and produced about 280 tons of regional organic vegetables.
