South Korea’s first own lunar probe has sent photos of the back of the moon. The Korea Space Research Institute (Kari) on Wednesday released photos of Tsiolkovsky Crater, Vallis Schrodinger Valley and Szilard M satellite crater on the moon’s far side.
The photos were taken in March with the high-resolution cameras on board the orbiter called “Danuri” and sent to Earth. The probe orbited the moon at an altitude of 100 kilometers.
Four months after launching into space, the lunar probe reached its target orbit last December. The project is part of South Korea’s plans for its own space exploration. One of the orbiter’s tasks is to explore possible landing sites on the moon.
