The well-known American beer brand “Bud Light” got caught up in the culture war between liberals and conservatives in the USA. Because of a cooperation with a transgender influencer, the brand and the company behind it, Anheuser-Busch Inbev, have been confronted with severe criticism and calls for a boycott from the ranks of the political right. Trans people are people who do not identify with the gender they were assigned at birth.

Influencer Dylan Mulvaney announced a cooperation with “Bud Light” on Instagram in early April and advertised the brand there to her 1.8 million followers. This sparked outrage among supporters of former President Donald Trump. “Bud Light” is one of the most popular beer brands in the country.

In response to Twitter, musician Kid Rock released a short clip in which he shoots a rifle at several boxes full of “Bud Light” beer cans, then curses the beer brand and the company and gives them both the middle finger. Kid Rock is one of the few prominent US artists who openly supported Trump during his tenure. In his clip, the singer also wore a cap that read “MAGA.” The abbreviation stands for Trump’s campaign motto “Make America Great Again”.

The prominent Republican and ardent Trump supporter Kari Lake from the state of Arizona, in turn, wrote on Twitter that her supporters had scorned “Bud Light” at a free bar at a campaign event. Anyone who relies on “woke” will just go broke, she wrote and added: “Sad!”

The term “woke” means something like “to be awake” and initially referred solely to racial discrimination. However, conservatives in the United States are now using it in a derogatory way, complaining that they believe that action against various forms of discrimination goes too far. For example, they are up in arms about children being educated about transsexuality in schools.
