Due to repair work on the northernmost Weser ferry near Nordenham, commuters and travelers between the Wesermarsch and Bremerhaven will have to prepare for detours in the coming weeks. As the shipping company announced, the two ferry piers in Bremerhaven and Nordenham-Blexen will be renovated from this Monday for almost four weeks until March 21st. 25-year-old piles on both piers need to be replaced. The ferry service is therefore stopped. Several media outlets had previously reported.
A replacement bus service has been set up for pedestrians through the Weser Tunnel. The buses leave from the ferry docks and run on the hour on weekdays between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m. Bicycles can also be taken along to a limited extent. If you rely on a car, you also have to take the Weser Tunnel instead of the ferry. This is around 20 kilometers south of Nordenham and Bremerhaven.
According to the shipping company, more than 2,300 passengers and 700 vehicles are normally transported across the Weser every day on the connection with the two ferries “Bremerhaven” and “Nordenham”.
