The event happened shortly after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. The driver was then traveling on the President-Kennedy road (173), in the Pintendre sector, when his crisis started.
The man who no longer had any control over his body lost control of his vehicle near McDonald’s, located at the corner of rue du Terroir, and crossed the central reservation. His run finally ended after he hit a pole.
“Miraculously, no other person was involved,” said spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Lévis (SPVL), François Gagnon, who pointed out that the outcome of this event could have been much more dramatic.
The man in question had a medical sanction prohibiting him from driving due to the possibility of an epileptic seizure.
He was taken back to the hospital center to receive adequate care for his state of health. The case was submitted to the crown prosecutor for dangerous driving, the SPVL said.
real consequences
A similar incident had much more serious consequences in the summer of 2016, in front of the CHUL, in Quebec. Jonathan Falardeau-Laroche, in the grip of an epileptic seizure, fatally grabbed a pregnant woman who had just left the establishment after a pregnancy follow-up.
On the very day of the accident, Mr. Falardeau-Laroche’s neurologist had forbidden him to drive because of his health problems.
The court then sentenced the man to serve a 32-month prison sentence, highlighting “the high degree of disregard for the life and safety of others”.
