A school project aims to better arm girls and boys in Saxony against hate, fake news and bullying on the Internet. Ten schools in the districts of Görlitz, Central Saxony, North Saxony, Leipzig, Dresden and Chemnitz are currently involved, as the civil courage campaign announced on Monday in Dresden. Among other things, the students should learn what effects processes such as algorithms and filter bubbles can have on opinion-forming and how they should react if they or others are insulted or harassed on the Internet. At the same time, the young people are trained to then pass on their knowledge to younger people. Teachers and parents are also involved in the project.
For the new school year, other schools could register for the “School and Digital Democracy” project, it said. “We want to make sure that the students understand the opportunities and risks of the digital world and learn to deal with them safely and responsibly. Media competence is a key qualification for the future and we want to do everything we can to ensure that the students are as well prepared as possible.” , said project coordinator Anne Neuber.
