Those who “do the work everywhere else every day” are also needed, with or without vocational training – be it in retail, in hospitals, in care facilities or in construction, emphasized Scholz.

At the same time, the chancellor called for more education. It must be ensured “that all young people who are looking for an apprenticeship also find an apprenticeship position”. Some companies were desperately looking for skilled workers, but some companies did not train at all. “We have to make sure that more people are trained in Germany again, then we will have fewer problems finding skilled workers,” said Scholz.

Scholz supported the union demands for a stronger collective bargaining agreement. In Germany, “more wages, more collective agreements” are necessary. Collective wages ensured that no employee had to negotiate solely for his wages. “That’s why I wish that we would again have a larger number of companies that conclude collective agreements,” emphasized Scholz in front of the assembled trade unionists.
