A woman and a four-year-old boy died in the fire in the apartment building in Flensburg. The police announced on Friday morning. The identity of the woman has not yet been finally clarified. Of the nine injured, seven are still in hospital. No one was seriously injured in Thursday’s fire.
Most of the injuries were sustained by the residents of the house when they jumped out of the windows to escape the fire. The cause of the fire is not yet clear. “There is no evidence of third-party negligence or a xenophobic motive,” the police said.
According to the police, residents on Harrisleer Straße helped rescue the residents of the house by carrying mattresses and a container in front of the house until the emergency services arrived. The people trapped by the fire could have jumped on it.
According to the police, there were many onlookers on site during the fire. Videos of those affected were shared on social networks. “Criminal investigations have been initiated,” the police said. “An active disability of rescue workers is not yet known, but is still being examined.”
