A small child and a young person died in a farmhouse fire in Pronstorf (Segeberg district, Schleswig-Holstein) on Saturday. The 17-year-old died at the scene of the fire, a police spokesman said on Monday. Her three-year-old half-brother died in hospital from his injuries. The mother and another twelve-year-old daughter, who were initially taken to a hospital with suspected smoke inhalation, have since left the clinic, the police spokesman said.
The 200-year-old farmhouse, inhabited by several families, burned down completely. According to the information, 200 emergency services from 18 fire departments were involved in the extinguishing operation.
The fire broke out early Saturday morning in the farmhouse in the Wulksfelde district of Pronstorf. The investigations into the cause of the fire by the Bad Segeberg criminal police are ongoing. The ruined fire is in danger of collapsing, and there are currently no indications of the cause of the fire, said the spokesman. The extent of the damage is still unclear. The families made homeless by the fire were housed with relatives and friends.
