In the Harz Mountains, a car was hit by the steam locomotive of a train on the Harz Narrow Gauge Railways. Rescue workers and a helicopter are in action, a police spokesman said on Wednesday.
According to dpa information, the vehicle was hit by the steam locomotive at an unrestricted level crossing, just behind the Elend station (Harz district), and dragged along for a few meters. According to initial information, two people were injured. There were no deaths, as the spokesman said. Information on how many people were on the train in the direction of the Brocken was not initially available.
According to a spokeswoman for the HSB Harzer Schmalspurbahnen GmbH (Wernigerode), the level crossing at Misery is secured with a St. Andrew’s Cross. The train of the so-called Harzquerbahn drove on the route from Nordhausen (Thuringia) in the direction of Brocken. The next stop after misery would have been the Drei Annen Hohne station, the spokeswoman said. The cause of the accident is still unclear.
