A truck loaded with slaughterhouse waste caught fire on Autobahn 14 between Bernburg (Saale) and Ploetzkau in the Salzland district. This resulted in total damage of around 80,000 euros, as the police announced on Friday. Nobody got hurt. According to the police, the cause was a technical defect.
On Friday morning, the 27-year-old driver reportedly noticed smoke rising from the direction of the refrigerated trailer. He then drove the truck onto the hard shoulder and separated the tractor unit from the refrigerated trailer. The entire refrigerated trailer then caught fire. After several hours of closure and recovery of the slaughterhouse waste, the lane towards Dresden was reopened at around 7:30 p.m.
