Russia calls the u.s. sanctions, which were voted through on Tuesday, for “unfair competition”.
Russia maintains its plans for the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline despite the UNITED states’new sanctions against companies working on the gas pipeline from Russia to Germany.
It informs the Kremlin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Wednesday.
Russia calls the u.s. sanctions, which were voted through on Tuesday by the congress, for “unfair competition”.
The actions (penalties, red.) is a direct violation to international law and an example of unfair competition.
– It leads to an unnatural dominance on the european market and imposes on european consumers more expensive and less competitive products – more expensive natural gas, says Dmitry Peskov.
the Sanctions will mean that the UNITED states’department of state within 60 days and report back which companies and persons involved in building the pipeline. Not just for the Nord Stream 2, but also for TurkStream. It is a second gas pipeline that runs from Russia to Turkey.
Nord Stream 2 is close to being finished, after Denmark recently has said that the pipeline bypasses the Danish søterritorie, but over the Danish continental shelf. This means, that Denmark according to the marine’s constitution, law of the sea convention, can’t say no.
the Pipeline is to go past the island of Bornholm and is politically inflamed, both in Europe and in the relationship between the UNITED states and Europe.
Europe has asked the US to intervene since, without the construction of the Nord Stream 2. However, the u.s. congress is a big opponent, as the project stands to make the EU more dependent on Russian gas, as well as sending large sums of money to Russia.
Nord Stream 2 will double the Russian gas exports to Germany. The first line – the Nord Stream – which runs in parallel with Nord Stream 2, was inaugurated in 2011.
the UNITED states has tried to persuade the european UNION to instead of the Russian gas to buy lng from the UNITED states, which sail to Europe.
