The EU Commission will present its work program for the coming year on October 18 – and by then it has to decide whether it will revise the previous version of the Reach chemicals regulation. In the future, health substances will no longer be individually checked and withdrawn from circulation, but entire classes of substances will be banned. The chemical industry would like to prevent this as far as possible and has intervened massively against such a reorganization. Environmental chemist Ninja Reineke from the Chem Trust organization explains what it would mean if chemical policy continued as it was.
